Once you have your site complete and it is up and running.... you will want to promote your site. A wide variety of ways to do this. First I suggest you sign up for Google Webmaster tools (free) and verify your site (directions are in the webmaster tools) and also consider signing up for Google analytics (also free). Analytics will help you "see" who is visiting your site and how they are finding it, via searches, direct keying in of the URL or via links, etc. Also where they are from, how many per day, etc. Lots of good information.

Submit Your Site For Free
The first step to getting your site online and to get better rankings in Google is to submit your URL to search engines. An example of an URL is www.yoursite.com. Eventually the search engines will find your site but this will help expedite the process.Once you submit your URL, it could take several days, weeks, or months for the search engines to index your page(s). Results may vary so don’t write this in stone. Factors such as other websites pointing to your site can affect this time as well.
Submit your URL to Google:
1. Go to the following link: http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl2. Type in your URL, example: http://www.yoursite.com
3. Enter comments about your site. This is optional. Usually I enter the genre of the site and a few keywords. Example: Website design in Hollister, CA.
4. Enter the captcha text shown in the box
5. Select “Add URL”
Submit your URL to auto engine:
1. Go to the following link: http://www.socialsubmissionengine.com/2. Http://www.free-web-submission.co.uk/submissionfree/submit.php
3. Type in your URL, example: http://www.yoursite.com
4. Select “Submit URL”
Do Not Use an Automated Submission Program
Using an automated submission program to submit to multiple search engines at once may be considered spam attempts and is frowned upon by search engines such as Google. Also note that you do not have to add all of your URL addresses for your entire site. For example, you do not need to add http://www.yoursite.com/about.hml and http://www.yoursite.com/contact.hml. Simply enter the home page URL and let the engines do the rest.
Once all that is done, promote your site!
· Promote your site (I list my Blogs in part of my email signature for every email I send out!)
· Link to other similar sites and ask them to reciprocate it will help draw traffic
· If you have a site that sells products, etc. advertise your site
· I have a business card with my sites and when I meet folks and give them my card, my sites are listed
Do a search on promoting your site online and see what else others have done to increase traffic
Getting your site to be "seen" by Google search takes a while. Depends on several factors, but in my experience it can take weeks (or months...) and it is all about numbers... more hits to your site the sooner it will move up the scale on the search list. It took my site about 2-3 weeks to show up on the Google search after submission to the URL listed above and about 500 visits.
